Architectural Institute of Japan – Guidebook for Practical Applications of CFD to Pedestrian Wind Environment around Buildings

As computer facilities and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software have been significantly improved in recent years, the prediction and the assessment of pedestrian wind environment around buildings using CFD have become practical at design stages. Therefore, the guidelines, which summarize important points of using CFD technique for appropriate prediction of pedestrian wind environment, are needed. This guidebook describes the guidelines proposed by the Working Group of the Architectural Institute of Japan (AIJ). The feature of the guidelines is that it is based on the results of the cross comparison between the results of CFD predictions, wind tunnel tests and field measurements for the seven test cases, which have conducted for investigating the influence of many kinds of computational conditions for various flow fields. The guidebook also includes these computational results obtained by the Working Group and thier calculation conditions. Unfortunately, this guidebook is only available in Japanese at present.
