Change detection using Sentinel-2 and PostGIS

With its very short revisiting period, Sentinel-2 satellite data make it possible to perform change detection operations of every point on Earth every 5 days at least. In this article, we’re going to apply change detection techniques over the region of Liege, Belgium, between the periods of the 3rd December 2015 and the 11th August 2016, in order to spot changes that may occur during this period.

Here’s how we proceed.

  • Data acquisition
  • Data format transformation
  • Data loading (PostGIS)
  • Clipping the data
  • Change Dectection formula application
  • Results Interpretation
