1. download the ZIP  archive
  2. unzip the compressed file into a folder (for example, qgis_2.18.12.1)
  3. search for “qgis.bat” in “your_folder\GIS_2.18.12.1\QGIS\bin”
  4. run it

I cannot download, can you please send me a link?

Thanks for the portable version. I can’t get it to run though, first it says it’s missing vcruntime140.dll which I downloaded and placed in the bin directory. Then it complained about missing api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll which I also put in the bin directory. Now the erros is “The procedure entry point ucrtbase.terminate could not be located in the dynamic link library api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll”.

Do you have any hints for me what else I could do? I’m obviously in a corporate environment with centralized IT unwilling to help me… I have older versions of portable QGIS running but would like to move to a newer version. Thanks!

Thanks, but I still have the same problem. Seems like a prerequisite for your portable QGIS is Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio. Since I don’t have local admin rights I obviously can’t install that. Which happens to be the reason I am looking for a portable QGIS in the first place.

I’ve tested the packages onto PC that, maybe, have Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio installed… This is why no errors were found… Can you compare your old QGIS portable with “my” version? Maybe this operation can create a new, “compatible”, version of the software…
